I think the real gem of this tutorial was learning about local by flywheel, I stayed away from virtual machines for dev because of speed, but local by flywheel solves that . It is fast!
I noticed that the documentation on 3.1 is a little lacking in how to actually change css when choices are made in the module. I see the use of ET_Builder_Element::set_style, and in the react side a function static css(props), i would love if someone could actually go over a little more in depth on how to create a custom module. I would even gladly pay for a class on this.
Thanks for pointing me to flywheel. Have been using MAMP Pro and has been a bit buggy. I have already tried all this with the Docker method with no issues but like the ease of use that Flywheel displays.
I need to go over the more advanced stages of module creation again. Last time I had time two weeks ago I got something functional, beyond the sample set up. But everything was set up like it was global; start with one module, apply some settings, great. Make another instance of the module and it inherits the settings from the first one. Make changes and the first module changes as well. Not sure this is what is meant to happen so need to investigate further. Hopefully we will get more documentation and a support forum.
Hi Guys,
I really appreciate the time you’ve taken with this. When Divi 3.1 came out I was really interested but also somewhat daunted by it all.
You’ve certainly laid this out in a way that I can have a crack at it.
I just love the idea that we can create plugins to do little tasks that we need on an adhoc basis. it doesn’t have to be about creating that “killer plugin” for the community, though giving back to the community is always a good thing too.
I’m just now moving into a space where I’m creating shortcode plugins that provide very specific CPT outputs on an archive page. Its VERY cool!!!! and is letting me get very custom with what fields are displayed on the page.
Now after watching this tut I might play around a bit with getting my CPT plugin to work more generically so that I use it more widely on more sites. But still have a couple of PHP knowledge hurdles to leap first!
Thanks also for the demo using ET Hooks. A very practical example. Loved it.
Also appreciate David’s very shiny head, on topic questions and good sense of humour.
Cheers,
John.
